Trump’s reforms. First orders as president

Donald Trump has signed dozens of executive orders and executive orders that dramatically overhaul the policies of the Joe Biden administration.

Donald Trump, in his style, launched sweeping reforms from his first day as president. Trump has already ordered the withdrawal of the United States from a number of international organizations and plans to review the rules for granting American citizenship.

TikTok

Trump suspended the ban on the use of the TikTok platform in the United States for 75 days. After that deadline, he plans to give his administration “an opportunity to determine the appropriate course of action that will protect national security and prevent the sudden shutdown of a communications platform used by millions of Americans,” the executive said. order.

Interunorganizations of people

Trump signed an executive order requiring the United States to withdraw from the World Health Organization (WHO). Trump began the process of withdrawing the United States from the WHO at the end of his first term, which lasted from 2017 to 2021. The next president, Joe Biden, reversed this decision during his first days in the White House . Trump’s signing of the executive order on his first day in office raises the possibility that the United States will formally leave the organization.

Trump has previously criticized the organization for its response to the coronavirus pandemic. In particular, he argued that the WHO is too “China-centric” in the fight against Covid.

The executive order, signed by Trump on Monday, said the United States would withdraw from the WHO “due to the organization’s failure to manage the Covid-19 pandemic, which originated in the Chinese city of Wuhan, and other global crises to health.”

Under the Biden administration, the US remained the WHO’s largest donor. By 2023, the country will account for nearly a fifth of its budget of about $6.8 billion.

Trump is also withdrawing the United States from the Paris climate agreement. The move reflects the new US president’s skepticism about global warming and also fits with his agenda to free oil and gas companies from regulation so they can maximize production. This is the second time Trump has withdrawn the United States from the agreement, the first time it happened in his first term as president Joe Biden reversed this decision. The agreement commits about 200 countries around the world to keep global warming below 2 degrees Celsius, and then below 1.5 degrees.

Sorry

Trump pardoned almost all those accused of participating in the storming of the Capitol on January 6, 2021, when he personally insisted that Joe Biden’s election victory not be recognized and encouraged his supporters to attack the US Congress building. The new law, signed by Trump on January 20, effectively ends legal consequences for all but 14 of the nearly 1,590 people charged in connection with the attack. The exception was members of the far-right organizations Proud Boys and Oath Keepers, whose prison terms ended early. However, among those pardoned was Enrique Tarrio, the former leader of the far-right neo-fascist Proud Boys, who was sentenced to 22 years in prison, the longest of any charge stemming from the January 6 riots. Others pardoned include people convicted of using pipes, sticks and chemical sprays to attack police officers guarding the Capitol.

US citizenship by birthright

Trump ordered restrictions on the right to automatic US citizenship for anyone born in the country. However, experts note that the principle of citizenship by birth is enshrined in the American Constitution and cannot be removed by presidential decree.

The order applies to children born after 30 days from the date of signing the document – in cases where their parents are illegal in the United States. Such children will no longer automatically receive American citizenship. Also, the new rule will apply in situations where the mother is temporarily in the United States (for example, on a visa), and the father is not a United States citizen. The document also prohibits the granting of birthright citizenship to children born to people with temporary employment in the United States, student and tourist visas.

Immediately after Trump’s order was issued, one of the nation’s oldest civil rights organizations, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), and other groups filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration.

The case will be tried in the federal District Court of New Hampshire.

Later, a coalition of 18 states where Democrats are in power, as well as the cities of San Francisco and the District of Columbia (that is, Washington), filed its own similar lawsuit in federal District Court in Boston (Massachusetts).
