The decree signed by US President Donald Trump suspending international aid for 90 days does not apply to military assistance to Ukraine.
This was reported by the Center for Countering Disinformation under the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.
Trump decided to suspend all US foreign aid for 90 days. The Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council says that in fact, Trump’s decree concerns international assistance within the framework of development programs related to the activities of UN agencies, peacekeeping initiatives, refugee support programs, etc.
Ukraine receives assistance from the United States under the Presidential Drawdown (PDA), Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI) and Foreign Military Financing (FMF) programs.
The decree of the US President does not apply to these programs, the Center noted.
Trump’s executive order notes that “the foreign aid industry and bureaucracy are not in America’s best interests and, in many cases, run counter to American values.”
It also says that aid to other countries “contributes to the destabilization of world peace by promoting ideas in foreign countries that are directly opposed to harmonious and stable relations both within and between countries.”
Therefore, “no subsequent foreign assistance from the United States will be provided in a manner that is not fully consistent with the foreign policy of the President of the United States.”
