The Council of Ministers of Economy and Finance of the EU countries on Tuesday made the final decision on Croatia’s accession to the eurozone from 1 January 2023. This was reported on the European Council’s website on Tuesday, 12 July.

“Today, the council has adopted the last three by-laws required for Croatia to become a member of the euro area from the beginning of next year,” the communiqué said.

It states that one of the acts establishes the exchange rate of the current Croatian currency – kuna – at the level of 7.53450 kunas per euro.

Croatian Finance Minister Zdravko Maric called this day “great for the country” on the air by Croatian television and radio company HRT. According to him, “Croatia’s accession to the eurozone is good not only for Croatia, but for the entire eurozone.”

In early June, the European Commission decided that Croatia met the criteria required for the transition to a common European currency from 1 January 2023. Later, members of the European Parliament agreed to Croatia’s request to join. in the euro zone from the beginning of next year.

Recall that the Croatian Parliament believes that the introduction of the euro will be a positive step for the country’s economy. This will eliminate monetary risks, lower interest rates, improve the country’s credit rating and attract more investment. The transition of prices for goods in both currencies will begin on September 5th.
