Rubio’s candidacy for the position of Secretary of State was supported by all senators from the Republican and Democratic parties (99 in favor), none voted against the appointment.

Rubio previously served as a Republican senator in Florida since 2011. His nomination by Donald Trump to be secretary of state received strong support from some Senate Democrats, who called their colleague well-qualified for the role. .

After the Senate voted on his nomination, Rubio said he was “honored” to be so strongly confirmed by his colleagues.

“I hope because they know me, and I understand that most of them voted for me because they thought I would do well, and maybe there are a few because they want to remove me. But jokes aside, it’s an honor… this is an important task at an important time, and I am grateful for it,” he said as he left the Senate.
