TikTok stopped operating in the United States on January 19th.
The service is blocked. And on Saturday evening, January 18, the social network disappeared from the App Store, and Google Play displays an error. This happened shortly before the entry into force of a law obliging TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, to sell the platform by January 19. Otherwise, she would be blocked, which is exactly what happened. NPR writes about this.
The US has passed a law banning TikTok. We are fortunate that President Trump has indicated that he will work with us on a solution…as soon as he takes office. Please stay tuned – users receive this message when they try to open an application or website.
As you know, the US House of Representatives passed a bill in March 2024 that could ban the TikTok social network in the US.
The law should come into force on January 19, 2025, with the possibility of a one-time 90-day delay granted by the President if the sale of the social network is not completed before then.
Let us remind you that on January 17, the Supreme Court of the United States of America refused to block the law banning or selling TikTok. And US President-elect Donald Trump has said he will give TikTok a 90-day reprieve from a potential US ban when he takes office on January 20.
