COVID -19 Temporarily Stops Daniel Craig’s Return to Broadway –

NEW YORK (AP) – Is this a curse on a Scottish play? Daniel Craig’s return to the new version of “Macbeth” on Broadway has been temporarily halted after the actor fell ill with COVID-19.

The Wednesday chronicle and evening performances were canceled when the James Bond actor passed a positive test. In a tweet posted Saturday night, the show said all performances were canceled until Thursday “due to the limited number of positive Covid review results at the company.”

Craig played William Shakespeare in The Revival of Tragedy, Ruth Nega’s Broadway debut as Lady Macbeth.

“Macbeth” plays at the Longacre Theater, which opens on April 28th. Directed by Tony Award winner Sam Gold.

According to legend, “Macbeth” was cursed from the very beginning, when the curse of the witches confronted Shakespeare using real spells and cursed the opera. Other products were affected by accidents.

Craig was last seen on Broadway in 2013 in Harold Pinter’s “Betrayal” Against His Wife, Rachel Weiss, directed by Mike Nichols. Craig also starred with Hugh Jackman in the 2009 film “A Steady Rain”. Gold led Craig in the 2016 off-Broadway play “Othello” with David Oelovo.

Other high-profile Broadway shows had to cancel their shows because their lead actor had a virus, including the same presenters of “The Music Man” Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster.
