The EU regulator has requested access to internal documents and information on how the social network moderates and improves content.

The European Commission requested that the American entrepreneur Elon Musk fully disclose the latest changes in the work of the algorithms of the social network X. This was reported on Friday, January 17, by the Financial Times.

An extended investigation by the European Commission requires X to hand over internal documents related to its recommendation algorithm. The Commission also issued a “holding order” for all relevant documents regarding how the algorithm may be modified in the future.

In addition, the EU regulator requested access to information on how the social network moderates and improves content.

The move follows complaints from politicians in Germany that Algorithm X is promoting far-right content ahead of the country’s February 23 election. Musk then came out in support of the nationalist Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, saying it would save Germany.

Asked whether the investigation had been expanded in response to Musk’s controversial interview last week with AfD co-chair Alice Weidel, a Commission spokesman said the new request helped “we monitor the systems around events taking place.”

This, he said, was “totally independent of any political consideration or any particular event.”

Earlier, the European Union promised to speed up the investigation into Elon Musk’s social platform X due to suspicions of violations of the Digital Services Act.
