Silver medalist of the 2024 Olympics in artistic gymnastics Ilya Kovtun is changing his sports citizenship.
Together with coach Irina Gorbacheva, he applied for a Croatian passport, head coach of the Croatian national team Vladimir Madjarevic said.
According to the Jutarnji List, 21-year-old Kovtun has already received permission to perform from the Croatian Artistic Gymnastics Federation and all he has to do is obtain a Croatian passport.
The athlete has lived in Osijek for three years.
Kovtun is a silver medalist at the 2024 Olympics in artistic gymnastics, a four-time European champion and a two-time medalist at the world championships.
