The final hurdle to ending the war between Israel and Hamas and freeing the hostages has been overcome.
After many hours of consultation, the Israeli government voted for a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of the hostages. This is the final step in reaching a peace deal with Hamas. This was reported on the website of the Israeli government office on the evening of Saturday, January 18.
According to Israeli media, 24 ministers voted in favor and eight against.
“The government has approved the plan for the return of the hostages,” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said in a statement. It makes clear that the cease-fire agreement with Hamas will take effect on Sunday.
Earlier, US President Biden announced the details of the agreement between Israel and Hamas, which was concluded on January 15. It consists of three stages.
The second phase will involve the further release of captives and the complete withdrawal of troops, and the third will begin the reconstruction of Gaza.
CNN writes that the second and third phases are an agreement with the first phase.
Let’s recall that Israel and the Hamas group agreed on a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the release of hostages after meetings with the Prime Minister of Qatar, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.
