The former presidential candidate insisted on the cancellation of two decisions of the Central Election Bureau, in which the presidential elections should be annulled in accordance with the decision of the Constitutional Court.
In Romania, the High Court of Cassation and Justice rejected an appeal filed by former presidential candidate Calin Georgescu in the case of annulment of the results of the November presidential election. The Romania Journal reported this on Friday, January 17.
It was noted that Georgescu’s appeal hearing took place on Friday, January 17, and lasted six hours.
Georgescu sued several institutions, including the Central Electoral Bureau and the Constitutional Court, as well as Romanian President Klaus Iohannis and the politician’s rival in the presidential race, Elena Lasconi, in the case of overturning the results of the presidential elections held in Romania in November.
Giordescu requested the annulment of two decisions of the Central Electoral Bureau, according to which the presidential elections should be annulled in accordance with the decision of the Constitutional Court.
On December 31, 2024, the Bucharest Court of Appeal rejected Georgescu’s claim, but the politician appealed to the Supreme Court of Cassation and Justice.
Let’s recall that in Romania, the pro-Russian far-right politician Calin Georgescu won the presidential election in the first round.
The Romanian Constitutional Court annulled the results of the first round of the presidential election. The reason for the cancellation of the results is the intervention of the Russian Federation and cyber attacks. Now the country must call new elections. Repeated presidential elections will take place in the second half of May.
