An aide to the Russian dictator said the Kremlin is “not counting the minutes” before negotiations with the new US president begin.
US President-elect Donald Trump should take the initiative and call Russian dictator Vladimir Putin first. Putin’s assistant Yuri Ushakov said this in an interview with one of the Russian propagandists.
He noted that “usually the president or head of government who comes to power is the first to call.”
According to Ushakov, the Kremlin “is not counting the minutes” until the start of negotiations with Trump on the end of the war in Ukraine, but they hope that sooner or later “some signals will come from Washington.”
Ushakov says the Russian authorities are ready to listen to related proposals and “respond to them constructively.”
According to the dictator’s aide, the future White House administration has not yet contacted the Kremlin about preparations for Trump’s meeting with Putin.
The Kremlin expects that the discussion will first take place in a closed format at the administration level, and then “issues regarding the further development of the dialogue, including a possible dialogue at the highest level,” will be resolved.
Meanwhile, on Thursday the Kremlin ruled out possible concessions to Ukraine. As Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, Putin developed Russia’s negotiating position on resolving the war in Ukraine in June 2024. Moscow will not make concessions.
Let’s remember that Trump said on January 9 that Putin wanted to meet with him.
