European sanctions against Russia concern various sectors of the economy and the freezing of assets of the Russian Central Bank.
Hungarian EU Affairs Minister Janos Boka said that Budapest has not yet decided whether to support the extension of EU sanctions against Russia, believing that the EU should decide on this issue only after consultations with the new administration of Donald Trump . It was reported by Reuters.
“I think it would be natural, before deciding to extend the sanctions for another six months, to ask the new US administration how they see the future sanctions regime,” said Boca.
The minister added that the sanctions concern various sectors of the economy and the freezing of assets of the Russian Central Bank.
“There is no decision yet about Hungary’s position we want to wait to make a decision to find out how the US administration sees the future sanctions regime,” he said.
The EU extends existing sanctions every six months, which requires a unanimous decision from its 27 member states.
Earlier, Hungary criticized US sanctions against Gazprombank.
