The euro will in the future replace the dollar as the exchange rate-setting currency in Ukraine.
First Deputy Head of the NBU Ekaterina Rozhkova stated this on the air of “We are Ukraine”.
Rozhkova began to voice the specific timing of such a transition – she emphasized that now, in conditions of war, is not the best time to untie the hryvnia exchange rate from the dollar in order to switch to the euro.
At the same time, Rozhkova emphasized that the transition from the dollar to the euro will benefit the Ukrainian economy – in particular, in terms of the desire to join the European Union.
Considering our course towards the European community, this is definitely a reality that will happen,” she noted. — If we want to become part of the European Union, to have access to their markets as exporters and importers, it is clear that we must be tied to the currency in which most transactions are carried out. Therefore, this is an inevitable future. The question is when and how.
Rozhkova assured that the transition to the euro will happen “very unnoticed by the market and slowly”
We will avoid any shocks. So there is no need to worry,” she added.
