Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani announced an agreement had been reached between Israel, Hamas and other parties during a press conference in the capital Doha.
According to him, the agreement will come into force on January 19. This was reported by the RBC-Ukraine agency with reference to the press conference.
Al Thani also shared details of the agreements:
- the first phase will last 42 days and will include a ceasefire and the withdrawal of Israeli troops to the east, as far as possible from populated areas;
- on the first day – January 19 – three people will be released, on the seventh day – four, after which Hamas will return three hostages to Israel every week;
- after this, Israeli troops will be stationed along the border with Gaza, which will allow for the exchange of prisoners, the transfer of the remains of the dead, and the return of displaced persons to their homes;
- The flow of humanitarian aid to all areas of Gaza will also be increased, in particular for the reconstruction of hospitals, medical centers and bakeries. Al Thani explained that 600 trucks carrying humanitarian aid will enter the Gaza Strip every day.
Al Thani noted that Qatar and the United States are guarantors of the continuation of negotiations to ensure the complete withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza.
US President Joe Biden also confirmed the agreement between Hamas and Israel.
In a message published on the White House website, Biden noted that he outlined the outlines of this plan on May 31, 2024, after which it was unanimously approved by the UN Security Council.
This is the result not only of the extreme pressure put on Hamas and the changing regional equation following the ceasefire in Lebanon and the weakening of Iran, but also of persistent and painstaking American diplomacy. My diplomacy has never stopped its efforts to achieve this goal, he emphasized.
Biden also noted that there are still several Americans among the hostages in Gaza.
