The agreement would end fighting in the Gaza Strip, increase much-needed humanitarian aid to Palestinians and reunite Israeli captives with their families.
US President Joe Biden confirmed that after months of intense diplomacy, Israel and Hamas, through mediators, agreed to a ceasefire and the release of the hostages. He also hopes that the conflict in the Gaza Strip will end.
“This agreement will stop the fighting in the Gaza Strip, increase the amount of much-needed humanitarian aid to the Palestinians and reunite (Israeli – ed.) hostages with their families after more than 15 months in captivity,” said of the US President.
According to him, he proposed the outline of this plan on May 31, 2024, and then the UN Security Council unanimously approved the plan.
“And this is not only the result of strong pressure on Hamas, not only the result of regional alignment after the ceasefire in Lebanon and the weakening of Iran (meaning the defeat of Hezbollah by the Israeli army – ed.), but also which is also the result of everyday American diplomacy.” ,” Biden emphasized.
He added that it is time to stop fighting in the Gaza Strip and start working to build peace and security.
Biden recalled that Hamas was holding three Americans hostage.
“We are determined to ensure that, as part of this agreement, they will all go home,” the US President emphasized.
Let’s recall that today the media reported that Israel and the Hamas group agreed to a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the release of hostages after meetings with the Prime Minister of Qatar, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani .
