Warsaw’s presidency of the Council of the EU must end with concrete results for Ukraine, Poland and the whole of Europe.
The Polish authorities will work to speed up the process of Ukraine’s accession to the European Union. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said this at a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky in Warsaw on Wednesday, January 15.
“We discussed this path to the European Union. There are two things I want to clearly note. The Polish presidency will allow us to break the deadlock that has been evident in recent months. We will work together with Ukraine and our European partners, moreover, unconditionally, to speed up the EU accession process as much as possible,” he said.
Tusk promised to talk to Ukraine “in the language of concreteness, not sentimentality.”
“I want to clearly emphasize that it will not be the same as in the past. Our relations, our friendship will be based on real arguments. We will also be able to pursue our interests to the end if necessary,” the prime minister added. .
In this regard, Zelensky emphasized that Warsaw’s presidency of the Council of the EU should end with concrete results for Ukraine, Poland and the whole of Europe.
“We must be as effective as possible in opening negotiation clusters and coordinating positions. We can open at least some clusters, and this is not only about diplomacy and economics, not only about politics. – this is one of the main security issues he stressed.
Let’s remember that the EU procedure refers to 35 negotiating sections. Based on them, the European Commission first conducts an official screening of compliance of Ukrainian legislation with EU legislation. 33 of the 35 negotiating sections are grouped into six thematic clusters, while sections 34 Institutions and 35 Other issues will be considered separately, outside the clusters.
As you know, Vladimir Zelensky expects that Ukraine will be accepted into the European Union during the work of the new European Commission.
