The West is making efforts to protect its economies and ensure stability in the global energy market, Washington explained.
The United States supports the decision of the Canadian authorities to return to Germany a gas turbine owned by Gazprom for the Nord Stream gas pipeline. This was reported on the U.S. Department of State website on Monday, July 11th.
“We support the Canadian government’s decision to return to Germany the natural gas turbine used in the Nord Stream pipeline,” State Department spokesman Ned Price said in a statement.
It is stressed that in the short term, this turbine will allow Germany and other European countries to replenish gas reserves, “thus increasing energy security and sustainability.”
The State Department assured that the United States and its allies are committed to efforts to “reduce reliance on Russia’s energy resources.” At the same time, the statement said, the West is making efforts to protect its economies and ensure stability in the global energy market.
It was previously learned that Canada had decided to send a Siemens turbine for Nord Stream to Germany. This was stated by Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources, Jonathan Wilkinson. According to him, the issue of turbine transfer was discussed in both Kyiv and Berlin, so in any case, one of the allies “will be hurt.”
After that, Ukraine expressed disappointment with Canada’s decision regarding the turbine and asked the country’s government to cancel it.
In turn, the European Commission explained the return of the turbine for the SP-1 to Germany by the lack of necessary sanctions.
