Eyewitnesses said that MPs from Georgian Dream took part in the attack on the former government member.
Some people attacked the former Prime Minister and leader of the opposition party For Georgia Giorgi Gakharia in Batumi, in the lobby of the Sheraton Hotel. He has a concussion and a broken nose. It was reported by News-Georgia.
Eyewitnesses say that the attack was attended by the MP from Georgian Dream Dmitry Samkharadze, member of the Supreme Council of Adjara from the party in power Georgiy Manvelidze, as well as other people.
The police reported that they opened proceedings under an article of the Criminal Code on the beating, but did not comment on the information about the involvement of the deputies in the incident.
The patrol arrived at the scene of the incident only 40 minutes later, later than the ambulance. By this time, the hotel staff had started to clean up the area where the incident happened.
The clinic where Gakharia was taken reported that he refused hospitalization and left the hospital after first aid.
Prominent Georgian journalist Zviad Koridze also contacted the doctors. The incident with him took place before the attack on Gakharia – when he was sitting in the hotel lobby with his wife. According to him, Dmitry Samkharadze and the woman with him approached them. They started insulting him and the United National Movement party.
“Samkharadze started cursing, started insulting me and pushing tables. When I saw that everyone at their table stood up and headed in my direction, I went to the lobby and asked security for help. Security intervened, and at that moment one of the attackers hit me with something,” said the journalist.
We remind you that the head of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili, decided to leave the presidential palace on the day of the inauguration of the elected President Mikheil Kavelashvili.
It was learned that next week a bill will be submitted to the US Congress to recognize Salome Zurabishvili as the only legitimate president of Georgia.
