The Ukrainian leader’s visit comes amid a breakthrough in the historic dispute over World War II exhumations.
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky will visit Poland on Wednesday and meet with Prime Minister Donald Tusk in Warsaw. The office of the head of the Polish government announced this on January 15.
“The Government Information Center reported that Prime Minister Donald Tusk will meet with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky on January 15,” the statement said.
A press conference between Tusk and Zelensky is expected later in the afternoon.
In turn, Reuters clarified that the leaders “will hold a joint press conference at 11:40 GMT (13:40 Kyiv time – ed.).”
The agency said Zelensky’s visit comes against the backdrop of “a breakthrough in the historic dispute over wartime excavations that has arisen between the allies.”
Let’s recall that last week Ukraine and Poland exchanged lists of places to search and excavate the remains of opposite historical conflicts.
Before this, Donald Tusk announced that a decision was made on the first exhumation of the Polish victims of the Volyn tragedy in Ukraine, but he did not say the details.
According to media reports, in April in the Ternopil region the exhumation of the victims of the Volyn tragedy buried in the former village of Puzhniki will begin.
