Last year, almost half of the mines on the front were Ukrainian-made. By 2025, it is planned to produce the “maximum amount of ammunition.”
On the front, 10% of the defective mines were replaced, and production standards were significantly strengthened. A total of 30 thousand defective ammunition that did not meet critical requirements was seized. This was announced on Monday, January 13, by the Minister of Strategic Industries German Smetanin, writes Suspilne.
He noted that several problems were identified in the seized batch of mines:
-
difference in the diameter of the ammunition, which does not allow the powder gases to push the mine as they pass between the mine and the mortar barrel;
-
flying into part of the mine structure;
-
substandard gunpowder, when it does not explode with the required force.
Smetanin noted that now all mine manufacturers check 100% of the external geometric parameters of bullets to ensure exact compliance with the caliber.
In addition, a sealed powder package was introduced that can last up to 10 hours in water.
“Such packaging will be used for both mines and other ammunition from the seized batch will be dried and reused,” he said.
“The new packaging also ensures 10 years of storage of ammunition in warehouses with a new fuse, with a modified main charge and testing of all geometric parameters,” explained Smetanin.
The manufacturer reportedly replaces all defective mines at his own expense. Currently, the production of ammunition continues as normal: more than 32 thousand mines have been delivered.
Ukrainian fighters continue to use defective mortar mines produced by Ukroboronprom.
