The French government has called Russia’s cessation of exports of “blue” fuel to Europe the “most likely scenario.”
The French government is preparing for a complete cessation of gas supplies from Russia. They believe this is the “most likely scenario”, so they will not ignore this scenario. This was stated by the Minister of Economy, Finance, Industry and Digital Sovereignty of France, Bruno Le Maire, according to the news agency Reuters.
“I think a complete cessation of Russia’s gas supplies is quite realistic, and we need to prepare for it. It would be completely irresponsible to ignore this situation,” the official said.
According to him, this is “the most likely scenario.”
He also noted that the government is working to determine a list of companies that should receive priority protection in the event of supply disruptions. In particular, the “first line of defense” is to reduce the energy consumption of households and companies, and the next stage is the construction of new infrastructure. For example, a floating terminal for the supply of liquefied natural gas from abroad.
The news agency states that Russia’s supplies account for 17% of all gas in France. Due to this fact, the country relies less on them than other European states.
However, there is one difficulty: the closure for the maintenance of many nuclear reactors in the country. This will not allow France’s nuclear power industry to fill the missing volumes immediately.
It will be recalled that from July 11 to July 21, gas exports through the gas pipeline will be completely halted due to the annual scheduled adjustment.
Earlier it was reported that a brief strike by employees of the oil and gas industry in Norway, one of the largest gas suppliers in the EU, has led to rising gas prices.
