Biden’s national security adviser stressed that a decision to lower the age of mobilization in Ukraine was necessary.
Ukraine needs to solve the issue of lowering the age of mobilization of citizens. The National Security Advisor to the current US President Jake Sullivan said this in an interview with Bloomberg and said that he discussed this problem with representatives of Donald Trump’s team.
“Over the past year, this issue has become more pressing, and Ukraine’s need to be able to fully employ its brigades and battalions while we supply the vast amounts of ammunition and military equipment they need has increased,” Sullivan said.
He recalled that Ukraine has already lowered the age for conscription from 27 to 25 years and made several other changes in the law to facilitate the possibility of recruiting young people into the army under the age of 25.
Sullivan added that, for its part, the current administration has “communicated this to the new team.” At the same time, he admitted that this is a sovereign decision that should be made by the Ukrainian side, and it is necessary.
“Ukraine has to do this, but we’ve made it clear, including to the public, that manpower is a critical issue, and it’s an issue that Ukraine needs to address – even as we do our part to give them ammunition which they will do,” the White House spokesman emphasized.
As reported, US National Security Advisor Michael Waltz informed that the elected 47th President of the United States, Donald Trump, will persuade Ukraine to lower the age of mobilization to 18 years to attract hundreds of thousands of new military personnel.
We remind you that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said that currently the authorities are not preparing to lower the age of mobilization. At the same time, Zelensky is under increasing pressure to introduce mobilization from the age of 18.
