People’s Deputy Maryana Bezugla called representatives of the LGBT community patients who have “deviations from the norm,” like people with obesity, psoriasis or allergies.
At the same time, in a post on her Facebook page, she added that she has nothing against them and condemns discrimination.
She stated that she considers LGBT orientation to be a deviation from the norm. Bezugla emphasized that she is categorically against people being hired only because they are LGBT. She also expressed the view that obesity is a disease that needs to be treated and opposed quotas.
Social networks called her statements “homophobic.”
Subsequently, Bezugla and presidential communications adviser Dmitry Lytvyn argued on X (Twitter), but as a result, the people’s deputy ended the dialogue with the phrase “Are you gay?” The day before, Bezugla published a message in which she called LGBT people people with “psychophysiological abnormalities.”
What’s interesting is that you don’t meet many people who consider you normal. Therefore, please be careful with such topics and do not insult people,” Dmitry Litvin replied under the message.
Subsequently, Bezuglaya advised him to “take the boss’s eyes off the mess in the army with Syrsky.” But Litvin added that many “would do well to see the limits of their competence.” According to him, he does not interfere in the issue of managing the army because he does not understand it, and wished her not to offend people.
Are you gay? – Bezuglaya answered briefly.
The head of the “Military LGBT+” association, Viktor Pilipenko, emphasized that such statements by deputies devalue the lives of fallen defenders, as well as the Charter of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which do not contain discrimination. According to him, homosexuality is not considered a disease and science confirms this. He suggested organizing a meeting between Bezugliy and LGBT soldiers who defend Ukraine, so that she could personally see their contribution to the fight against Russian aggression.
