Rutte is concerned about the security situation in Europe. He believes that the EU should strengthen its defense industry and that NATO should avoid barriers between allies.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte believes that the future of world security depends on the outcome of the Russian-Ukrainian war. To achieve sustainable peace, it is necessary to increase military assistance to Ukraine. This was stated in his statement to the European Parliament.
Russia is accelerating its campaign of destabilization through attacks on internet cables, assassination attempts and acts of sabotage against NATO countries, Rutte said.
“We are not in a state of war (in Russia – ed.), but we are not in a state of peace either,” he said.
He added that he was concerned about the security situation in Europe. According to Rutte, the European Union should strengthen its defense industry, and NATO should avoid barriers between allies.
The NATO Secretary General stressed that the future of European and global security “depends on the outcome of the war in Ukraine” and called on European NATO allies to increase military support for Kyiv.
“I don’t know how and when the war will end. But I know that peace will not last if Putin achieves his goals in Ukraine… Peace will not last if Putin, Xi Jinping, Kim Jong-un and the regime is in Tehran is feeling stronger,” Rutte said.
He also announced the first summit of NATO allies in the Baltic Sea region, which will be held in the capital of Finland – Helsinki.
Let’s recall that the head of the European Council, António Costa, sent an invitation to the leaders of the EU member states to an informal summit on February 3, which was dedicated to the subject of European defense.
Earlier it was reported that the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky met with Mark Rutte at the Ramstein base. The main topics of the meeting were: the need to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense and to attract NATO countries to buy Ukrainian weapons based on the Danish model.
