Poland has extradited a Ukrainian citizen suspected of having committed a fatal accident in the Khmelnitsky region that occurred in July 2023. The press service of the Office of the Prosecutor General reported this on Monday, January 13.
The suspect was handed over to Ukrainian law enforcement on January 9, 2025 at the Ustilug-Zosin international checkpoint.
A resident of the Kamenets-Podilsky district, who in July 2023 committed a traffic accident near the village of Medzhibozh in the Khmelnytskyi region, was extradited. Road repairs were ongoing at the time.
The driver, who was driving a Volkswagen Transporter, failed to respond to warning signs, drove onto the side of the road and hit a worker carrying out road work. The victim died from his injuries at the scene.
The man was informed of the suspicion of violation of road safety rules by a person driving a vehicle, which resulted in the death of the victim (Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) and was selected as a preventive measure in the form of night house arrest. However, the suspect left for Poland, which became the basis for his international search.
The suspect is currently in custody.
Let us remind you that Poland recently extradited to Ukraine one of the suspects in the case of seizure of real estate (14 buildings) of the State Enterprise “National Cinema of Ukraine” worth about 42 million UAH.
Earlier, the coordinator of the migration crisis on the border of the European Union and Belarus was expelled from Poland.
