The driver said that the cause of the accident was a strong wind from the mountains, which only pushed the bus off the road.
In the Lofoten Islands, a passenger bus overturned and went partially into the water. Six passengers were injured. The accident occurred on the morning of Sunday, January 12, NRK reports.
It was learned that there were 27 passengers in the bus that was moving along the highway above the coast.
Police later reported that all passengers and the driver were successfully evacuated. Six victims were sent to hospitals, others were taken from the scene by another bus to the nearest city.
Road conditions at the site were difficult – after heavy snowfall on Saturday, melting and freezing rain began.
An additional threat is created by the wind from the mountains specific to this area. According to the bus driver, who has already spoken to journalists from the local publication Lofotposten, this was the main reason for the accident.
“When we came to the bend, suddenly a very strong wind blew and the bus was simply pushed off the road. I had no chance to hold on,” he said.
Let’s add that this is at least the second similar incident in this area in the past month. The first happened on December 26, when a bus carrying people overturned and slid partially into the lake. Then three people died.
