In August 2023, the businessman spoke for the first time about Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. He called it “barbaric.”
The co-founder of the Russian company Yandex and Israeli businessman Arkady Volozh hired security in 2023 after Russian dictator Vladimir Putin publicly wished him well. Bloomberg reported this on Friday, January 10.
According to the publication, the businessman in August 2023 spoke about Russia’s war against Ukraine and called Russia’s aggression barbaric. He also said that he was “scared by the fact that bombs are flying into the houses of Ukrainians every day.”
“Despite the fact that I have not lived in Russia since 2014, I understand that I also have a share of responsibility for the country’s actions,” Volozh added then.
Putin responded to the words of the founder of Yandex and said: “God bless him, let him live well in Israel, he is a talented person, but people in general should be grateful to the country.”
As Bloomberg wrote, after these words the businessman “felt uncomfortable and decided to take security for the first time.”
Volozh, who is under Western sanctions for complicity in the war, bills himself as a “Kazakhstan-born Israeli technology entrepreneur.” He called Yandex “one of the largest Internet companies in Europe.”
Earlier, Trump said that his meeting with Putin was in the planning stage.
