Pistorius said these purchases were part of preparations for possible future supplies. The minister, while at the naval base in Nordholz, emphasized that from the very beginning of his tenure he promoted readiness for any change in the situation. However, he did not comment on media reports that Chancellor Scholz is allegedly blocking an initiative to seek an additional three billion euros for new arms supplies to Ukraine.
In addition, the spokesman of the German Ministry of Defense Mitko Müller clarified that deliveries of the latest howitzers, drones and armored vehicles are already planned, including the first of the wheeled 155-mm howitzers will be transferred to Ukraine next that week.
Earlier it was reported that German Foreign Minister Annalena Bärbock and Defense Minister Boris Pistorius sought to allocate approximately three billion euros for the supply of arms to Ukraine before the Bundestag elections. But the office of Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz may oppose it.
Scholz, in his New Year’s speech, spoke of the need to support Ukraine in its fight against Russia.
