Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico threatened “harsh measures” against Ukraine due to the stop of gas transit from Russia.
The Slovak government may stop all humanitarian aid to Ukraine, decide to significantly reduce or completely eliminate benefits for Ukrainian war refugees, and also stop supplying electricity.
Fico also said that he uses the right of veto when making decisions in the European Union concerning Ukraine. The official emphasized that Bratislava will take this step if “there is no other choice.”
According to the prime minister, Slovakia was close to concluding an agreement to extend gas transit through Ukraine, so President Vladimir Zelensky’s December statement that Kyiv would stop transit “very surprised” him.
Let us remind you that Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico criticized the Ukrainian authorities for refusing to continue the transit of Russian gas after 2024 and promised to consider retaliatory measures, in particular, to stop supplying electricity to Ukraine. He subsequently threatened to limit aid to Ukrainian refugees.
