The Verkhovna Rada today, January 9, adopted in the second reading important changes to the law “On Military Duty and Military Service.”
This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Defense.
This is another step towards a transparent and effective conscript registration system, the department said.
The changes adopted by the Council provide that:
- 17-year-old boys can now register for military service remotely through “Reserve+” or in person at TCC and SP;
- bureaucratic commissions on registration of conscripts and initial medical examinations have been abolished;
- the physical examination will remain mandatory but will be conducted immediately prior to deployment to basic military service or basic military training that higher education students will undergo;
- women who have expressed a desire to undergo basic military service will, upon their own application, be registered as conscripts. Upon completion of their service, they will be registered as liable for military service at their own request;
- the military rank of “recruit” will be awarded upon completion of basic training;
- commanders of military units were given the opportunity to formalize the call for volunteers on the day of their arrival at the unit.
These changes will significantly relieve the TCC and joint venture and provide more opportunities for effective resource management, the Ministry of Defense noted. — Conscripts will receive modern and convenient tools to fulfill the requirements of the law, and military units will receive flexible recruiting mechanisms.
