Repeated presidential elections will be held in the second half of May – almost six months after the previous elections, which were canceled due to Russian interference and a cyber attack.
Repeated presidential elections in Romania will be held in May. The government coalition made the corresponding decision on Wednesday, January 8, News.ro reports.
It is known that the first round will take place on May 4, and the second on May 18.
“The decision takes into account the need to hold the first round of elections at the same time as partial elections in some counties (mayor elections in 13 municipalities, Bušteni City Hall, Zaleu City Hall and Bihor County Council) and the need to allow the elections that do not coincide with Easter and Florian holidays,” the message stated.
The coalition confirmed that Crin Antonescu will remain its candidate in the presidential elections. It was also decided that the state budget will be submitted to the coalition on January 27, and the parliament will adopt it in the first week of February.
Let’s recall that in Romania, the pro-Russian far-right politician Calin Georgescu won the presidential election in the first round.
The Romanian Constitutional Court annulled the results of the first round of presidential elections. The reason for the cancellation of the results is the intervention of the Russian Federation and cyber attacks. Now the country must call new elections.
