In 2024, oil refineries and fuel depots in Russia and the occupied territories of Ukraine were attacked at least 81 times. The BBC wrote this on Wednesday, January 8.
Oil facilities in the southern regions of Russia are often attacked. About 20% of all attacks occurred in the Krasnodar region, eight in the Rostov region, six in the Belgorod region, and five each in the Oryol and Volgograd regions. In at least 64 cases, the attacks resulted in fires.
According to the publication, in the second half of 2024, the frequency of such attacks has significantly decreased, especially in September and October. Refineries continue to be attacked – there have been at least 31 attacks this year, and some of the plants require lengthy repairs afterwards.
At the end of December, drones attacked the Novoshakhtinsky oil refinery, and a fire broke out there. This refinery provided fuel for Russian tanks, armored vehicles and aircraft, and its proximity to the Ukrainian border was important for Russian war logistics.
The plant stopped operations three times last year. It is not yet clear if he has returned to work after the latest attack.
