Earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron accused Musk of meddling in European politics.
French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot called on the European Commission to take tougher action against American businessman Elon Musk. This was reported by Reuters on Wednesday, January 8.
“Either the European Commission applies the existing laws with the greatest determination, ensuring the protection of the unique digital space of the EU, or it will not do so in this case, it should consider transferring this function to member states, particularly France ,” said Barrot.
It is important for the French government to strike a balance between digital markets and ensuring compliance with the strict standards of the European digital policy. Currently, the main issue is the accurate and decisive implementation of the DES standards (English Data Encryption Standard, a symmetric algorithm for encrypting certain data – ed.) in a situation with powerful digital players like Musk.
Recently, French President Emmanuel Macron accused Musk of meddling in European politics.
“Who would have thought ten years ago if we were told that the owner of one of the largest social networks in the world would support a new international reactionary movement and directly interfere in elections, especially in Germany,” said the French leader in his speech at the Elysee Palace.
Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre also expressed concern about Musk’s interference in politics.
American billionaire Elon Musk criticized the leader of the British party Reform UK, Nigel Farage, on his social network X. In particular, Musk wrote that Reform UK “needs a new leader” and Farage ” have no necessary skills.”
In the past, Musk called German Chancellor Olaf Scholz an “idiot” after the collapse of the coalition in Germany. In addition, the businessman suggested that it seems that only the ultra-right party “Alternative for Germany” is capable of solving the problems facing the country. These statements come amid preparations for parliamentary elections in Germany scheduled for February 2025.
