Venezuela’s self-proclaimed leader says seven foreigners, including three “from Ukraine,” plotted to prevent him from taking the oath.

Venezuela’s formal leader, Nicolas Maduro, announced on state television on January 7 that seven foreigners had been detained. According to him, they will be charged as “mercenaries” who tried to prevent Maduro from taking the oath of office as the country’s president. It was reported by Radio Liberty.

He also said those detained included two Americans, two Colombian “hitmen” and three “mercenaries from the war in Ukraine,” who he said were involved in planning “terrorist attacks” before his inauguration. scheduled for January 10.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has not yet commented on whether there are Ukrainian citizens among those detained in Venezuela.
