Donald Trump has repeatedly proposed that Canada become the 51st state of the US. He ruled out the use of military force but threatened to use economic power.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said the country will not become part of the United States. He wrote about it on Tuesday, January 7, on the page on the social network X.
“There is no chance that Canada will be part of the United States,” he said.
Trudeau said workers and communities in both Canada and the United States benefit from being “the world’s largest trade and security partner.”
Canadian Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly also commented on the words of US President-elect Trump. He criticized the statements of the US President-elect about the weakness of his country’s economy and the proposal to become the 51st state of the US.
Earlier, Trudeau announced he would step down as leader of the ruling Liberal Party, as well as the post of prime minister, after the Liberals elect a successor. After Trudeau’s decision to resign, the Republican reiterated that “a lot of people in Canada want to be the 51st state of the US.”
