In Nikolaev, on January 5, a fire broke out in the administrative premises of the court, located on Samoilovich Street. An office in the building was damaged by fire; the fire was extinguished by rescuers.
It was subsequently established that the cause of the fire was deliberate arson committed by an 18-year-old city resident, fulfilling an “order” from the so-called curator. This was reported by the press service of the Nikolaev region police.
Paliya was tracked, in particular, through recordings from CCTV cameras connected to the Safe City system, after which he was detained in a rented apartment.
The police found that:
- An 18-year-old Nikolaev resident, fulfilling an order, first found the “necessary” administrative building;
- he purchased in advance the necessary criminal weapons – a hammer and flammable mixtures – and, as directed, set the fire;
- The attacker filmed all his actions, after which he sent the “customer” a video report about the damage to the court and receiving a monetary reward.
During the search, police investigators confiscated mobile phones, SIM cards and bank cards, which he used to communicate with the customer.
The attacker was detained, he was informed of suspicion under Part 2 of Art. 194 of the Criminal Code (intentional destruction or damage to property).
For setting the administrative building on fire, he faces up to 10 years in prison.
