The statements of the President of Azerbaijan indicate another upsurge in relations between Baku and Yerevan, which have been negotiating a peace agreement for more than a year.
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said his country neighbors a “fascist state,” referring to Armenia, which he called “a source of threat to the region,” European Pravda reported.
According to Aliyev, Armenia is “in fact a source of threat in the region,” because the independent Armenian state is “essentially a fascist state” because it has been “ruled by the bearers of fascist ideology for almost 30 year.”
“And this fascism must be eradicated either by the leadership of Armenia or by us.
The statements of the President of Azerbaijan indicate another increase in relations between Baku and Yerevan.
Official Yerevan has not yet commented on the statements of the Azerbaijani president.
The countries have effectively been at war since declaring independence more than 30 years ago, and Azerbaijan regained control of Nagorno-Karabakh through military action in 2020 and 2023.
