A 116-year-old woman, Tomiko Itoka, recognized as the world’s oldest person, has died in Japan. This was announced by an official in the western Asian city of Japan, where the centenarian lives, Kyodo reports.
The woman died on the night of December 29 at the nursing home where she lived, but Hyogo Prefecture city authorities reported this only today.
Itoka was born on May 23, 1908 in Osaka, the eldest of three siblings. He became Japan’s oldest living person in December 2023 after the death of 116-year-old Fushi Tatsumi in Kassiwari, Osaka Prefecture. Itoka was recognized as the world’s oldest living person by Guinness World Records in September 2024, following the death of the previous record holder, 117-year-old Maria Brañas Morera from Spain.
Let’s remember that in 2022, the oldest living person on the planet, Guinness Book of Records record holder Kane Tanaka, died in Japan at the age of 119.
It was also reported that Lucille Randon (Andre’s sister) died last year in France at the age of 118.
