The Republic of Belarus hopes for China as an intermediary in unblocking transport traffic with the European Union.
Self-proclaimed President Alexander Lukashenko, ahead of elections in Belarus scheduled for January 26, plans to visit China to strengthen ties with Beijing to support his regime. The Center for Countering Disinformation reported this on Friday, January 3.
The publication indicates that this is Lukashenko’s third official trip to China in the past three years.
“Lukashenko seeks to build ties with China to preserve his regime and strengthen negotiating positions with the Kremlin,” the media wrote.
At the same time, the authors note that as a result of close cooperation with Russia, Belarus has been in international isolation in recent years. At the same time, the country is experiencing pressure from the Russian Federation due to the direct military presence on its territory, financial obligations on loans and dependence on Russian energy resources.
“Minsk aims to intensify joint Belarusian-Chinese projects, such as the Vyaliki Kamen industrial cluster, cooperation in pharmaceuticals, mechanical engineering and the military-industrial complex,” CPI wrote.
It was previously reported that the formal leader of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, wants to stockpile Russian Oreshnik missiles and deploy 10 such systems in his country.
The self-proclaimed President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, has threatened that in the event of new mass protests in the country, such as those that occurred after the presidential elections in 2020, he will completely shut down the Internet.
