When Ukraine, after the hot phase of the war, retains a strong army, a strong package of weapons, and security guarantees, then we can think about the abolition of martial law.
Today, the most important condition for holding elections is the end of martial law in Ukraine. President Vladimir Zelensky said this in an interview with United News on Thursday, January 2.
“If we manage to get the end of the hot phase of the war in a strong position for Ukraine – if we do this, we will be left with a strong army, a strong package of weapons, security guarantees – then we can think about lifting martial law in Ukraine.”
He also explained that the election was only possible after the hot phase of the war. When asked if the current president is ready to run for a second term, Zelnesssky said he hasn’t decided yet.
“I don’t know how the war will end if I do more than I can, I will probably look at this decision more positively.”
He emphasized that for him a second presidential term is not his main goal.
Earlier, Zelensky said that fair elections will be held in Ukraine, but only after a fair end to the war with Russia.
Let’s remember that the overwhelming majority of Ukrainians were against the wartime presidential election. Polls show that citizens of the state believe that Vladimir Zelensky should serve as president until the end of martial law.
