The head of the Polish Foreign Ministry indicated that Putin had fallen into a hole he had previously dug for Ukraine and Western European countries.
Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski ironically commented on the cessation of Russian gas transit through Ukraine, recalling that the Russian Federation had previously tried to bypass Ukraine by building alternative gas pipelines. He wrote about it on Wednesday, January 1, on the X social network.
“Putin built Nord Stream to bypass Ukraine and blackmail Eastern Europe with threats to turn off the gas tap, and now Ukraine has blocked its gas exports directly to the EU digging a hole …,” Sikorsky wrote.
Meanwhile, the Austrian Ministry of Climate and Energy also welcomed Ukraine’s decision not to continue the transit. As noted on the department’s website, its head, Leonor Gewessler, said that Ukraine had warned in advance about such a scenario, so it gave the Austrian authorities a chance to “do their homework.”
The minister assured that his country is “no longer dependent on Russian gas – and that’s good.”
Let us remind you that the transit of Russian natural gas through the territory of Ukraine has been stopped in the interest of national security. The relevant agreement expired on January 1, 2025.
