200 Ukrainian aviators received basic flight, ground and language training in the UK before training on the F-16.
Royal Air Force instructors trained pilots in general aircraft handling, instrument flying, low-level navigation and complex formation flying, the UK Embassy in Kyiv said.
In October 2024, eight more Ukrainian pilots completed basic training in the UK.
At the same time, Western media wrote that the United States would refocus the training of Ukrainian F-16 pilots on young cadets, rather than on experienced military air forces, and this decision could extend by many months the time when Kyiv will receive a full squadron of Western-made aircraft ready for combat.
WSJ interlocutors noted that the new direction is the result of a lack of experienced Ukrainian pilots with the necessary knowledge of the English language who could be sent to the battlefield.
Some officials also noted that the United States believes young cadets will be more open to Western-style training.
