Investigators found a “stockpile of more than 150 improvised explosive devices” believed to be tube bombs.
The FBI found the largest cache of “ready explosive devices” in the bureau’s history during the arrest of a man in Virginia. This was reported by the American television channel CBS News.
Federal prosecutors are investigating the case of Brad Spafford, who was arrested on December 17 for allegedly possessing an unregistered shotgun.
During a search of Spafford’s 20-acre farm in Isle of Wight County, investigators discovered a “stash of more than 150 improvised explosive devices” that prosecutors said were believed to be tube bombs. They said some of the bombs were “lethal” and “were packed into a vest intended to be worn.”
Spafford, on the other hand, “admitted that he kept a can of HMTD in the freezer – an explosive material that detonates unstable when the temperature changes due to friction.”
According to court documents, the investigation began in early 2023 after Spafford’s neighbor told authorities that Spafford was carrying a gun and missing three fingers on his right hand.
Spafford’s neighbor also told authorities that Spafford used photographs of President Biden for target practice at a local shooting range. He also said that Spafford is suggesting that “we need to start killing high-profile people again” and that “missing children who are in the news have been selected by the federal government to be trained as school shooters.”
Defense attorneys argued that Spafford should be released, telling the court that he has “no criminal record, no history of substance abuse, no history of mental illness.”
We remind you that a resident of Florida was arrested on the charge of planning the explosion at the New York Stock Exchange.
