Airport workers in Paris voted Friday morning to withdraw their strike notice after receiving a pay rise from their management.
Meeting in Roissy-Charles-de-Gaulle in a general meeting a few hours before the start of the summer holidays, these employees ratified an agreement that provides for a total increase of 3% for all employees of Groupe ADP, the airport facilities manager. Added to this 3% increase is a revaluation of salary scales and a pay rise for about 1,800 workers whose salaries are lower than the 2019 reporting level, according to details reported by the CGT.
Between 2020 and 2021, a loss of more than 1.4 billion euros has been accumulated.
In 2021, ADP workers agreed to reduce their wages to allow the company to cope with the Covid-19 crisis, which divided the number of customers at Paris airports by three in 2020. The group also implemented a voluntary departures plan and undertook to ensure that wages returned to their pre-crisis levels as soon as the impact on traffic was over. However, some routes have already exceeded 2019 activity levels, particularly overseas or seasonal connections to southern Europe. And Groupe ADP expects to turn a profit this year after losing more than 1.4 billion euros in 2020 and 2021.
“We believe we’ve got the balance of power, and it’s thanks to all of you“, greeted the CGT delegate. “Groupe ADP welcomes the agreement reachedin turn, the company noted The group’s employees are mobilized to ensure the best reception for air passengers“. ADP’s strike notice, which was originally submitted until Sunday evening, will be officially withdrawn at 6pm on Friday, CGT union representative Daniel Bertone told a general meeting. But the end of the conflict should avoid disruptions at airports in the Paris region, which await tens of thousands of travelers on major summer departures this first weekend. The prospect of flight cancellations had already diminished with the signing of an agreement on Thursday between Groupe ADP and the company’s firefighters, who also demanded upgrades.
The movement of firefighters, which began on June 30, led to the preemptive cancellation of hundreds of flights departing from or arriving at France’s flagship airport, Roissy, last week. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGAC) had imposed these pre-emptive cancellations in the name of safety; A reduction in the number of available firefighters forced the closure of some runways.
Beau welcomes ‘positive dialogue’
Clément Bon, the new delegate of the Minister of Transport, who met with ADP CEO Augustin de Romanay on Wednesday, welcomed “good news“. “When I arrived at the beginning of the week, I got involved, I got the management of Paris Aéroports, I followed it very closely, we got involved with the unions that were responsible for positive dialogue.Clément Beau added during his visit to Gare de Lyon in Paris.
The minister noted that more than two years after the end of the epidemic.there is a desire to travel, it is a moment that is a moment of reunification, a moment of family, relief and relaxation. We have to organize it as well as possible, that is my commitment and the players in the industry“. ADP subcontractors also went on strike last week over wages and working conditions. They have so far promised to move again on the weekend of July 16 and 17.
