The Chairmanship of the OSCE lasts for one year and is held by one of the participating States of the OSCE, the Minister of Foreign Affairs assumes the position of Chairman.
Switzerland will take over the OSCE chairmanship in 2026. This was announced by the head of the OSCE, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs and Trade of Malta, Ian Borg.
Borg emphasized that Switzerland’s ratification of this decision is an important step forward.
The corresponding ministerial decision was taken on the basis of consensus during the last days of Malta’s presidency of the Organization. Thus, 57 participating states of the OSCE expressed their collective commitment to support the important work of the Organization in the face of geopolitical challenges, the press service stated.
“The OSCE stands for security through cooperation and the peaceful resolution of disputes,” said Swiss Federal Councilor and future head of the OSCE in 2026 Ignazio Cassis.
In a year, Switzerland will replace Finland at the head of the OSCE.
