The report detailed the beatings, rape, branding and other torture suffered by the Israeli hostages.
Israel’s Ministry of Health will this week present a report to the UN on the torture suffered by Israeli captives while held captive by Hamas. In particular, we are talking about sexual and psychological violence, hunger, burning and lack of medical care, reports Reuters.
The report is said to be based on interviews with medical and social groups that treated more than 100 Israeli and foreign captives. Most of them were fired by the end of November 2023. Eight hostages were rescued by the Israeli military.
According to the report, more than 30 children and teenagers are among the hostages. Some were tied, beaten or branded with hot objects.
Meanwhile, women have reported being sexually assaulted by their captors, including at gunpoint. The men were beaten, starved, branded, kept in chains and prevented from using the toilet. Some were denied treatment for injuries and illnesses.
The report did not include the names or ages of the hostages to protect their privacy, but some descriptions matched those given by the hostages and the personnel who held them.
Hamas has repeatedly denied wrongdoing in the 251 hostages abducted from Israel in its attack on October 7, 2023. Israeli authorities believe nearly half of the 100 hostages held in Gaza are still alive. .
Reuters recalls that a new attempt to achieve a cease-fire in Gaza, including an agreement on the release of hostages, has been gaining momentum in recent weeks, although a breakthrough has not yet been reported.
It will be recalled that US President-elect Donald Trump has threatened to unleash “hell” in the Middle East if Hamas does not release all hostages before he takes office.
