The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry threatened Denmark with measures of a “military-technical nature” in response to aid to Ukraine. However, in Copenhagen they took it in stride.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Denmark’s decision to transfer a second batch of F-16 fighter jets “provokes a further escalation” of the war in Ukraine. Denmark said it was taking the latest threats from the Russian Federation calmly.
Thus, in a commentary to RIA Novosti, Lavrov said that the Copenhagen decision forces the Russian Federation to “take adequate measures,” particularly of a military-technical nature.
Denmark’s Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen responded to TV2 in a commentary that such statements are aimed at intimidating countries that support Ukraine’s fight for its independence:
“It is important to tell the Danish population that there is no direct military threat to Denmark from Russia. We are a member of NATO – a large security umbrella – based on the ability to help us in the event of a conflict.”
He added that he did not know what this “military-technical nature” was, but his assumption was sabotage in Denmark to provide weapons to Ukraine and train Ukrainian pilots.
In turn, the country’s Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen said on microblog X that this is not the first time that Lavrov has “rattled sabers”:
“I am considering it. It is completely legitimate to support Ukraine’s ability to defend itself, and we will continue our support. Russia is the aggressor here,” Rasmussen said.
We remind you that Ukraine received the second batch of F-16 from Denmark in early December.
After that, Denmark also allocated 280 million euros to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense.
