Centenarian Carter, who ruled the United States from 1977 to 1981, became the oldest US president of all time.
In the United States, the country’s 39th president and Nobel Peace Prize winner, Jimmy Carter (1977-1981), died at the age of 100. The Washington Post reported this on Sunday, December 29, citing his son James.
Carter passed away at his home in Plains, Georgia. His son confirmed his death without giving a reason.
In February 2023, the Carter Center announced that after several hospitalizations, the former president decided to stop active treatment and spend the rest of his life at home under hospice care. In recent years, Carter has been treated for an aggressive melanoma that metastasized to his liver and brain.
Jimmy Carter became the 39th President of the United States in 1977. Americans hoped that he would bring changes, particularly in economic policy and relations with other countries. During his presidency, there was significant progress in the peace accords, particularly the Camp David Accords between Egypt and Israel.
However, at the end of his tenure, confidence in him plummeted. An economic crisis, high inflation, unemployment and energy problems, along with the Iran crisis in 1979 in which American hostages were taken in Tehran, damaged his reputation. Despite his efforts, Carter was unable to effectively address these problems. For his work promoting peace, human rights and conflict resolution, he received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002.
It will be remembered that in 2018, the 41st President of the US, George HW Bush, died at the age of 94.
And in 2006, the 38th President of the United States, Gerald Ford, died. He is 93 years old.
