Now the punishment for armed rebellion and terrorism in Russia is punishable from 20 years to life imprisonment.
The head of the Kremlin, Vladimir Putin, has signed several laws strengthening domestic control over its residents. In particular, in Russia the responsibility for rebellion has increased. This was reported by Meduza and the Center for Countering Disinformation under the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine on Saturday, December 28.
So, for armed rebellion and terrorism in Russia they will be sentenced from 20 years to life imprisonment. Those convicted of this crime will no longer be eligible for parole. In addition, foreign nationals who help undermine Russian security face up to 15 years in prison.
Criminal liability was also introduced for desertion, resistance to superiors, voluntary surrender and destruction of military property.
In addition, Russia expanded the criteria for inclusion in the list of extremists, and Rosfinmonitoring gained access to data on the accounts of individuals who financially support extremism.
The head of the Kremlin, Putin, also approved a new strategy for the fight against extremism, which includes among the main tasks “the elimination of threats emanating from the territory of Ukraine.” The strategy cites participation in “unsanctioned protests, initiation of color revolutions, falsification of history and terrorism” as threats to Russia’s stability.
The Center for Countering Disinformation emphasizes that the laws signed by Putin “are in fact an attempt to protect the regime from new threats such as Prigozhin’s campaign against Moscow.”
“The adoption and signing of these laws proves that the Kremlin is increasingly afraid of internal threats and tries to legally protect itself from them, however, this pressure will lead to the destabilization of the internal political situation and, finally, the fall of the Putin regime,” CPD said.
Earlier, Putin said that Russia should have invaded Ukraine earlier, but it should have been better prepared for it.
