A victory in Scholz is only possible if there are serious mistakes on the part of Merz or his party, analysts say.
New Bundestag elections will be held in Germany on February 23. Olaf Scholz’s chances of being re-elected to a new term are dwindling fast. This was reported by the German tabloid Bild.
According to polls cited by the publication, support for his party SPD (Social Democratic Party of Germany) is only 14-16%, while the CDU/CSU bloc (which includes the Christian Democratic Union of Germany and the Christian Social Union in Bavaria) gets 31-33%.
Before the 2021 election, the gap between the parties was only 9.5% – and Scholz made a breakthrough, ahead of his competitors, but experts believe that now it is almost impossible to repeat the victory, the note of the media.
“The gap is too big to bridge,” said Hermann Binkert, head of the sociological institute INSA.
According to analysts, Scholz’s victory is possible only in the event of a serious mistake on the part of Merz or his party, and “otherwise Scholz will clearly give the position of chancellor to his rival.”
Let’s recall that President Vladimir Zelensky previously criticized Scholz, in particular, for the fact that he had a telephone conversation with the Russian leader, Vladimir Putin.
The Ukrainian leader has also repeatedly expressed public disagreement with the German Chancellor’s refusal to provide Taurus cruise missiles.
